Pamela Painter is the award winning author of two story collections, Getting to Know the Weather, which won the GLCA Award for First Fiction, and The Long and Short of It. She is also the co-author of the widely-used textbook, What If? Writing Exercises for Fiction Writers. Her most recent story collection is Wouldn’t You Like To Know.
Her stories have appeared in The Atlantic, Harper’s, Kenyon Review, Ploughshares, among others and in numerous anthologies, such as Sudden Fiction, The Company of Cats, Jazz Stories, Flash Fiction, Flash Fiction Forward and MicroFiction. She has given readings and conducted workshops at conferences such as The Aspen Writers Conference, the Provincetown Fine Arts Work Center, the Post-Graduate Vermont College Writers Conference, and Writers at Work in Park City Utah.
Painter is a founding editor of StoryQuarterly and continues to serve on the advisory board. She is also on the advisory board of Grub Street and Ploughshares. She teaches in the MFA Program at Emerson College in Boston.
Painter has received grants from The Massachusetts Artists Foundation and the National Endowment of the Arts, has won three Pushcart Prizes and Agni Review’s The John Cheever Award for Fiction.
